SICILY TOUR - DAY 4 - 6 APRIL 2024
Another glorious sunny day and some early risers went swimming from the beach just in front of the hotel. Following breakfast we boarded the coach for the short trip up to Castelmola, a beautiful village nestled into the hillside affording spectacular views of Taormina below and the Ionian coast line.
The trip up the winding mountain road was eventful when our fifty seater coach met a building truck coming the other way! One of our party spotted early on that an awkwardly placed plant pot on the side of the road might be the key to unlocking the traffic jam, but it took some time and many gesticulating Italian drivers to also find the solution!
It was worth the drive as the views were breath-taking, the quaint shops gorgeous and the coffee and canoli amazing!
We headed back down to Taormina, where there were three lifts to take the group of fifty, a keyboard and accessories, up seven floors to the beautiful town. This took a little time and must have been frustrating for lots of people wishing to alight on other floors when they were met with a noisy car of Decibellas, whichever lift they tried!
Some of the party took the cable car down to the beach for some R&R, others headed straight for the numerous restaurants and cafes for a spot of lunch and maybe a cocktail or two!
We reconvened at 3pm for our final concert in the Duomo in the centre of Taormina at 4pm. We had a few audience members as we began to warm up but then once the concert began, people heard us singing and came in to listen to a few songs.
After the Mayor had thanked us, there was just enough time for a preprandial before heading to the restaurant for our celebratory dinner. The food was fabulous and everyone was in high spirits following a wonderful week!
